Some Insurers Might Cover Hidden Gradual Damage or Water Leaks Gradual damage means damage that results from the gradual release of water over an extended period of time. ![]() The coverage item for water that is consistently included is ' sudden and accidental discharge of water or steam' in your home. The coverage does not apply to any sump, sump pump or related equipment as there is a separate coverage that can also be added for water back up related to these. This can range from a broken pipe in a bathroom to an appliance such as a refrigerator or washing machine giving way and subsequently flooding your home causing accidental water damage. Safeco offers two different limits of this coverage, $25,000 and $50,000. This coverage would apply to water or steam that leaks from your plumbing, heating, air conditioning and household appliances. Safeco’s optional coverage would allow a loss to be paid for, repeated, continuous seeps or leaks that occur for a period greater than 14 days. The continued Seepage of Water is normally excluded by most homeowners’ policies. Safeco Insurance has an optional coverage for their homeowner policy holders for Water Seepage and Leakage.
